# Display a wallboard on a TV

Put a live fleet view on a shop-floor screen and keep it there.

A *wallboard* is a dashboard view shown full screen on a display nobody is sitting at. There are two ways to run one: expand a view in any browser, or send a view to a *paired screen*, a TV running the IoTFlows app that reloads its URL on its own after a reboot.

**Prerequisites.** Sign in as an Organization Owner or Administrator, see [Roles reference](/docs/admin/roles-reference/). For a paired screen, a Chromecast with Google TV or another Google TV device, see [Set up a Chromecast](#chromecast).

**You do not need a paired screen to try this.** Full-screen mode in any browser is the same view. Choose a paired screen when the display must survive a power cut unattended: it reloads its URL on boot, while a browser tab opened by hand comes back to a sign-in page.

## Enter full-screen wallboard mode
1. Open **Assets** on the **Overview** tab, see [Monitor your fleet](/docs/monitoring/assets-overview/).
2. Set the filters, grouping and view mode the board should show.
3. Click the **expand** icon, the diagonal arrows at the right of the filter row.

The cards fill the window and the address bar gains `?maximize=isExpanded`. The **X** at the top right returns to the normal page. A bookmark of that address opens straight into the board.

*Full-screen wallboard mode. The same fleet view with the chrome removed.*

## Pair a screen
A *screen code* is the number the IoTFlows TV app shows while it is not yet tied to an organization. Entering it in the dashboard ties the screen to yours.

1. Click the **TV** icon at the top right of the header. The **Send URL Link** modal opens.
2. Under **Select Screen**, click **Add Screen**.
3. Type the number the screen is displaying into **Screen code** and click **Submit code**. The toast reads "Screen has been added".
4. Type a name a colleague would recognize, for example `Press bay east`, into **Screen name** and click **Submit Name**. The toast reads "Screen name added".

The screen stays paired until you delete it. Its header shows a live clock where the search box would be, which is how you tell a paired screen from a signed-in laptop.

![The Send URL Link modal with the Add Screen form open under two paired screens, a numbered callout on the Screen code field holding the six-digit number 482913, and the Submit code button beside a Cancel button](/images/monitoring/mon-wall-02.webp)

*Pairing a TV by screen code. Codes expire; generate a new one if it is rejected.*

## Send a view to a paired screen
The modal sends one URL to one screen, and it opens with the address of the page you are on.

1. Arrange the view, expanded so the URL carries `maximize=isExpanded`.
2. Click the **TV** icon. **Url link** is prefilled with the current address; edit it to send a different page.
3. Under **Select Screen**, click the screen's row so it highlights.
4. Click **Send Link**. The toast reads "Link has been sent" and the screen navigates to that URL.

Any dashboard URL works. For example, send `/assets?select=canvas` for the floor plan in [Map your floor with Canvas](/docs/monitoring/canvas/), or the board from [Shift production](/docs/production/shift-production/). The screen updates live, like your own browser.

*Sending the current view to a paired screen.*

## Set the zoom level
**TV Zoom** scales the page on the screen: `1` is the size in your browser, `2` is double, `0.5` is half. A value outside `0.5` to `2` snaps to the limit when you leave the field.

Zoom travels with the link, so change it and click **Send Link** again. Start at `1.5` and go up until the smallest number on a card is readable from where operators stand.

## Rename or remove a screen
Both actions sit on the screen's row in the **Send URL Link** modal.

- To rename, click the **pencil**, type the new name and click **Save**. The toast reads "Screen name changed".
- To remove, click the **trash**, then click **Delete** on the confirmation. The toast reads "Screen deleted".

Deleting a screen unpairs it. The display keeps showing what it last loaded until it restarts. There is no undo: pair it again by code if you deleted the wrong one.

## Screen settings
| Field | What it does | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Url link** | The page the screen navigates to | The page you opened the modal from | Include `?maximize=isExpanded` for a full-screen board |
| **TV Zoom** | Scales the page on the screen | `1` | `0.5` to `2` |
| **Screen code** | The number an unpaired screen displays | Empty | Digits only. Codes expire |
| **Screen name** | The label in the **Select Screen** list | Empty | Changed with the pencil |

## Set up a Chromecast
A paired screen is a Chromecast with Google TV, or any Google TV device, running the IoTFlows TV app. You do not cast from your own browser or phone: the app loads the dashboard itself and shows a screen code until it is paired.

1. Plug the Chromecast into the TV and finish Google's own setup, including Wi-Fi.
2. Open the Play Store on the TV and install [IoTFlows](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iotflows.iotflows_google_tv_app), the app whose listing reads "TV app to display screens from IoTFlows dashboard".
3. Open the app. It shows the screen code.
4. Pair it from the dashboard, see [Pair a screen](#pairing).

The app relaunches itself after a reboot or a Play Store update, which is what keeps the board up unattended.

## Choosing what to display
A board is read from 20 ft (6 m) away in a glance, so send less than you would look at yourself. Filter to one department or tag, and pick the view mode whose numbers matter to the people under the screen, see [Choose a view mode](/docs/monitoring/assets-overview/#views).

Choose the Assets overview when the floor thinks in machine names, Canvas when it thinks in position, and the shift board when the question is "are we on pace".

## Errors
| What you see | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| A screen code is rejected | Codes expire | Submit the code the screen is showing now |
| Stale numbers or a sign-in page | The screen lost its network or session | Check its connection, then send the link again |
