Connecting Device To The Cloud

After a device is created, click on the device row. This will navigate you to the selected device. The right side toolbar is where all the configuration for the device will be done. Below displays the position of each button along with its function.

  • Wi-Fi Networks: List of all the Wi-Fi networks that have been added to the organization. If not Wi-Fi networks are displayed, you must add one in the Wi-Fi networks page. Go to Adding a Wi-Fi Network for more details.

If no Wi-Fi networks are added, the device needs to be manually configured to connect to a Wi-Fi network. Alternatively, the user may use an Ethernet connection.

  • Configuration file: A downloadable configuration file to set up all the user and Wi-Fi credentials to your device. This file is required for all devices. To learn more go to Copying Configuration File to Your Device.

IMPORTANT: Copying configuration file is required in order to connect to the IoTFlows platform.

  • Node-Red Activation Switch: Toggling switch ON will connect to the server and device in order to start a remote live session with the device Node-Red application.

  • Node-Red Connect: Button will navigate you to the Node-Red application of the device remotely after it has been activated through the Node-Red activation switch.

  • Node-Red Credentials: Users can change the log-in credentials for the Node-Red application on that device.

  • SSH Activation Switch: Toggling switch to ON, you will be able to SSH to your device remotely through the Internet.

  • SSH Connect: Button will display instructions to remotely connect to your device through SHH. The default credentials are :

    • Username: pi

    • Password: raspberry

IMPORTANT: We strongly recommend that you change the username and password on your raspberry pi for security reasons.

  • Create Client: Allows users to create a unique client for that device. Clients are used in any applications or scripts that communicate to the cloud through MQTT. Each client has a unique identifier known as Client ID.

  • Create Data Stream: Allows users to create a unique data stream for that device. A data stream defines the properties such as name, description, and unit of a stream of data published via a client. Data streams reduce the size of the payloads, help in better organizing the flow of data, and ease the integration of IoT data with other applications through APIs.
